Colonoscopy without pain - Hands-on course Stockholm
Many patients experience colonoscopy as an unpleasant and even painful investigation, that can lead to low compliance, especially in screening programs. A high quality colonoscopy requires a good insertion technique, with minimal patient discomfort and pain. A meticuluos technique in instrument withdrawal ensures optimal detection of premalignant lesions and early colorectal cancer, especially if the non-exophytic type is present.
The course is a combined project by Endoscopy Centre, Karolinska Institutet Danderyd Hospital, Ersta Hospital, Stockholm Sweden and Olympus Sweden in collaboration with leading Japanese experts.
Purpose
- to acquire a colonoscopy technique minimizing pain experience in patients and reducing the need for pain medication and sedation
- maximize the detection rate of pre-malignant lesions by using high resolution endoscopy techniques aided by chromo-endoscopy and Narrow-Band Imaging (NBI)
- to lay a solid theoretical and practical foundation for endoscopic treatment of appropriate lesions by polypectomy and Endoscopic Mucosal Resection (EMR) Vision
Our vision
To provide a friendly academic environment stimulating fruitful scientific discussions. To ensure adequate volume and personal instruction for each attendant, the number of participants are limited to 16.
